NACUSAsf Meeting Minutes – October 11, 2002, 7:30-9:30pm
At the home of Art Bodin

Present – Anne Baldwin, John Beem, Art Bodin, I’lana Cotton, Sondra Clark, Herb Gellis, Brian Holmes, Owen Lee, Dale Victorine

National Report – I’lana Cotton is our representative to NACUSA National: nothing to report for over a month – is anything happening over there? Don Thompson, former-NACUSA National Treasurer, is coming to our next concert.

Treasurer’s Report – with an anonymous stock gift of $1033 our chapter has $2225. We have enough funds to cover our first two concerts of the season. We’ll get more funds from membership dues after January 2002, and from any proceeds from the door of our first two concerts. We will likely need to do more fundraising to cover our third concert in June 2003.

November 8, 2002 Concert (“String Fling”) Personel:
Door – Anne Baldwin
Recording – John Beeman
Refreshments – Nancy Bloomer Deussen
Stage – Owen Lee
Program – Mark Alburger - mus21stc@aol.com - Featured composers: please send bio, program notes, singer’s name (if applicable) and instrumentation of your piece to A.S.A.P. Thank you.

Publicity Committee Report – Lorie Griswold has sent press releases regarding “String Fling” with photographs to all local papers.

Herb Gellis will create and e-mail to the membership an e-mail version of the “String Fling” flyer for members to forward to everyone you know.

Yahoo! Groups audience database - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NACUSAsf/database – members must contribute or update their lists in order for the database to be effective. If your updated audience mailing list is on the database, we will provide mailing labels for flyers when you are featured on a concert. We are assured of no duplications of mailing labels as well. Of course, it is best to include addresses only of people who are likely to attend.

It was decided that from now on, composers will provide postage for flyers sent on their behalf.

Corporate Solicitation Package – Herb Gellis will chair the committee, consisting of Art Bodin, Anne Baldwin, Mark Alburger, and Chris Enni. The package, enclosed in a nice folder, should include a pamphlet describing NACUSAsf, a formal letter of donation solicitation, sample program(s), and a CD of a past NACUSAsf concert.

SVARTS report – This organization is busy at work providing guidance and resources for groups such as NACUSAsf. Herb Gellis, our SVARTS representative will provide details in separate updates via e-mail and COMPOSERsf. The SVARTS Publicity and Marketing Seminar has yet to be announced – Herb will alert Chris Enni, designated funded attendee, as to when and where once it is announced.

Grant Committee Report – nothing to report.

NACUSAsf Young Composers’ Contest – it was decided to keep the contest limited to high school students, but to broaden the geographical area of inclusion to the entire San Francisco Bay Area.

Event Reminders – please see our chapter website at http://hgellis.home.mindspring.com/nacusasf/

It was decided to have a silent auction at our June 2003 Concert. Proceeds will benefit our chapter. Please e-mail Herb Gellis at hgellis@mindspring.com to donate items for auction.

At our next concert, composers may donate appropriate items (scores, CD’s etc.) to be sold at our “String Fling” concert. Proceeds will benefit our chapter. Please contact Sondra Clark - Donson42@aol.com - to donate items.

Respectfully submitted,

Owen Lee, President, NACUSAsf
(in the absence of Joanne Carey, Secretary, NACUSAsf)
