NEW BUSINESS

Change of tax exempt status. We are seeking a change of tax exempt status from 501.c.6 to 501.c.3 via Jack Morton, CPA, by the end of the calendar year - merely filing will get us the status, unless we hear otherwise from IRS. We will give Jack Morton about 2 weeks. Community/education based activities will help us gain this status. I'lana will contact Don Thompson (of NACUSA national) regarding more wording regarding a mission statement, etc. and other chapters regarding their community/educational outreached activities.

Ideas for outreach -
-Young Composers' contests,
-Composers can Play too… take to the schools for free.
-NACUSA composers could set poetry selected from those submitted by school children.
-Hook up with local youth orchestras.

Season Flyer
Names for concerts:
Sing a New Song! (Nov. 11, 2000)
Composers can Play Too… (March 10, 2001)
Operas and Interludes (June 2, 2001)

Owen has designed a season flyer, which will now be part of the normal flyer sent for each concert.
Format: Address, stamp and specific concert info on front, season information on back.
Owen will check with the Post Office regarding the legal layout of the front of card and attempt to find a way to easily import mailing lists e-mailed from members into a common database.

Website (Herb Gellis, Web-master)
Our web-site will contain:
- Information on our season of concerts,
- Chapter business section: meeting minutes, announcements, reminders, meeting schedules, etc.
- A "Composers'" section to promote composers and their works via a few philosophical sentences, contacts, photos, links to sound files (i.e. MP3) at the NACUSA National site, links to composer's web-site, etc. per composer. Materials should be e-mailed to Herb Gellis
herb@cup.hp.com.

E-groups
E-groups is a powerful tool for web-based communication, coordination and organization of information. Owen will sign everyone up - anyone will be able to unsubscribe if they want.

Composition Contest
NACUSA SF will sponsor and coordinate a young composers' composition contest.

Age range: grades 9-12

Prizes: 1st place - $100 scholarship, performance by C.P.E. on the June 2001 concert.

Honorable Mentions (as many as deserving) - a certificate, name in the June 2001 concert program.

Instrumentation: at least 2 performers selected from Sop. Ten. Fl. Vc. Pno. (June 2001 instrumentation).

Length: maximum 5 minutes.

Geographical area: (since this is our first contest, we will keep it limited) Peninsula north of San Jose to Menlo/Atherton. We will send announcements to the MTAC Palo Alto and Los Altos Presidents and newsletter editors, as well to music teachers in the area public and private high schools. Sondra Clark will obtain addresses and names of high schools, MTAC Palo Alto/Los Altos presidents and newsletter editors.

This contest stands out because it features a professional performance of the winning composition.

NACUSA Banner for the stage and poster sized placard on an easel for the door.
Everyone liked the idea. Owen will check into prices.

The meeting was adjourned after 10 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Owen Lee
President, NACUSA SF
