Non-Profit status for all of NACUSA - an application has been filed with the IRS, and subsequent supplemental question from the IRS have been answered. We await their response. If NACUSA gets non-profit status, the entire organization (all the chapters and national) will have to keep viable financial records for inspection by the IRS every 5 years in order to maintain the status. An accountant will likely be needed to design and implement an easy to follow method for keeping financial records and prepare the records for the IRS. Since it was NACUSAsf who has spearheaded this effort to gain non-profit status, it is falling on NACUSAsf to lead all of NACUSA in the maintainance the status. One other factor in all of this is that the national president (Marshall Bialosky) and national treasurer (Don Thompson) are reported to have expressed the desire to pass on their duties [to NACUSAsf] and retire. More discussion to follow once we have heard back from the IRS and see what happens in terms of the national leadership.
